When choosing infrared LEDs for a DSI setup, you have a few choices. You need to surround all 4 sides of your polished clear acrylic so depending on the size of your screen, so you will probably need a lot of LEDs. The best rule to follow is to place an LED at least every inch (2.5cm) or less around all 4 sides. The single LEDs will need to be soldered and held in an LED frame which can take a lot of time and is usually not very stable. The best method is to simple use some L or U channel and just stick the LED ribbon inside it facing your acrylic. Setup is much easier as you simply unroll the LED ribbon, apply it and plug in your power supply. This takes minutes versus the hours it may take to get the individually soldered LED frame up and running. When deciding whether to get the 8mm or 10mm LED ribbon; the 8mm will work for smaller setups and the 10mm for larger. The more light the brighter your blobs and the easier for your camera to track, especially in ambient lighting environments which contain infrared light. Our recommendation is always to get the 10mm LED Ribbon and a Power Supply.
